ยาเป๊ป (PEP)

What is PEP?

PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is the medication to prevent HIV acquisition after a possible exposure.

How to take PEP?

PEP combines 3 kinds of preventing HIV medicine. Take 1 pill per day. You might get side effects from taking PEP such as mild nausea, and mild dizziness. The side effect will be recovered within a couple of days.

Who should take PEP?

People who have a high risk to meet with these situations.

  • Unsafe sex, for example, condom break, condom slip, condomless sex without PrEP intake.
  • Sharing needles, syringes, or other equipment to inject drugs.
  • Sexually assaulted.

The best time to take PEP

PEP must be started within 72 hours of possible exposure to HIV. The sooner you start PEP, the better. If you have been prescribed PEP, you must take it daily for 28 days.

How well does PEP work?

PEP is highly effective in preventing HIV if you take it within 72 hours after possible HIV exposure. For your partner’s safety, you should use a condom to protect your partner while you are taking PEP.
